Graduate programme

With compassion, teamwork, and close relationships with our clients, we provide the highest level of pet healthcare, all day, everyday – that’s the Inglis Way!

About Inglis Vets

Inglis Vets is an award- winning independent veterinary organisation which is proud to offer its expertise to the vets of tomorrow. Owned and managed by clinicians, Inglis Vets is passionate about helping students on their way to long, rewarding careers in the vet industry.

We are a companion-animal practice. Inglis Vets’ hub is a purpose -built hospital in Dunfermline and we have seven veterinary branches located throughout east-central Scotland. We are currently undergoing an exciting expansion, which will see the brand become even more of a household name in the next few years.

Inglis Vets has been operating for over 60 years and is widely regarded as the one of the best veterinary practices in the UK. That’s not just our opinion – we’ve won ‘Best Scottish Vet’ in the VetHelpDirect Awards for the past two years running!

The 2018 Graduate Programme

We are very excited to once again open our graduate programme for applications. Our unique programme has produced some top class vets, many of whom have stayed with Inglis Vets to further their skills and knowledge.

We believe this is the most well-rounded and best- supported graduate programme available in Scotland but that doesn’t stop us making continual improvements. This year’s programme will see our new graduates undertake advanced training and extra practice on surgery, consultations and general practice, to accelerate their surgical skills and confidence.

Graduates will be based at our highly-regarded “Care and Save” branch, based in Cowdenbeath, Fife. Opened in 2012 by ex-Prime Minister Gordon Brown, the practice has been recognised as an innovative service which provides discounted pet care for those on a low income or who are simply struggling to meet their vet bills.

Working alongside Senior Veterinary Surgeons, graduates will enjoy a wealth of experience and be given the opportunity to build on their surgical and medical skills in our busy practice. The new graduates will also have the chance to work with our visiting specialists under the guidance of a mentor.

We have also recently introduced two new key features to make the programme even more rewarding:

  • A four-week intensive surgical experience under the guidance of a Senior Veterinary Surgeon.
  • A four-week practical and theoretical training programme developing everyday skills including client care, a very important skill which is often overlooked.

At Inglis Vets we are committed to the development of our vets and nurses, as we firmly believe that quality careers mean quality patient and client care. This is why if you choose our programme, we will provide you with everything you need and around- the -clock support from our friendly team.

We’re tremendously proud of the programme which provides a fantastic first-hand experience to talented veterinary surgeons of the future – will you be one of them?

A few words from our most recent graduate Charlotte…

Hi I’m Charlotte and I am currently on the Inglis vets new graduate programme. I was drawn to the programme by the amount of support available for their new graduates and it has not disappointed.

When you start the programme, you are assigned a veterinary mentor, and the whole team at Inglis Vets are incredibly friendly and more than happy to help you, any support you could need is only an ask away!

At the beginning I had designated time at a branch to focus on my basic surgical skills and to become familiar with the computer system. Since then I have continued to develop my surgical skills and learn more advanced procedures in our hospital.

One of the best parts about being a new graduate at Inglis is that you are encouraged to follow your cases from start to finish, you are involved in all aspects from initial consults to diagnostics to surgery. This means that at only three months qualified, I have been heavily involved in more unusual cases such as intussusceptions and pericardial effusions alongside routine consults.

This has given me a great foundation across all general practice areas. I’m also encouraged to pursue areas of my own interest both in practice and through on-going CPD.

I would encourage any new graduate that is eager to advance their skills whilst receiving brilliant support and expertise along the way to apply!
